· Antibiotics:Organic secretions produced by micro-organism which are antagonistic to other micro-organisms.
· Ascocarp:The fruiting body formed in some members of ascomycetes.
· Basidiocarp:The fruiting body formed in some members of basidiomycetes.
· Chemotrophs:The organisms which prepare organic food with the help of energy obtained by conducting some chemical reaction.
· Cladistics: Method of classifying organisms employing genealogies alone in inferring their phylogenetic relationship.
· Coenocytic:A multinucleate structure having no partition walls between the nuclei.
· Diatomaceous Earth: Large deposits of silica on the ocean floor formed as a result of deposition of silicious frustiles of diatoms.
· Holophytic( Absorptive): The mode of nutrition in which organisms obtain food in liquid form through their general body surfaces.
· Holozoic (Ingestive): The mode of nutrition in which organisms intake solid food materials.
· Karyotaxonomy:Taxonomy based on interrelationship developed on the basis of characteristics of nucleus and chromosomes.
· Numerical Taxonomy: The numerical evaluation of similarities between groups of organisms and the ordering of these groups into higher ranking taxa on the basis of these similarities.
· Phenetics (Adansonian taxonomy): A branch of numerical taxonomy in which the organisms are grouped into taxa on the basis of estimates of overall similarities.
· Photoautotrophs: The organisms which prepare their own food from inorganic raw materials (CO2and water) with the help of chlorophyll utilizing solar energy.
· Phylogenetics:A biological classification concerned with reconstruction of evolutionary history and the history of speciation.
· Plasmodium:A multinucleate mass of protoplasm of slime moulds which creep like Amoeba.
· Plasmodium: A parasite protozoan, which causes malaria in human beings.
